RECON: Brent’s Bio

 
 

Brent has served on the faculty of the University of Central Arkansas since 1999. At UCA he teaches applied horn, directs the UCA Horn Ensemble, and is Brass Chamber Music Coordinator. He performs solo recitals regularly, and collaborates with other faculty in chamber programs. Brent is a founding member of Pinnacle Brass, the resident quintet at UCA.


Brent is primarily known as a hornist, but he has a background as a band director as well. He earned his music education degree and Performer’s Certificate at the Crane School of Music, S.U.N.Y. Potsdam. After completing his master’s in performance at Northern Illinois University, he taught in Illinois public schools, followed by part-time work at Millikin University. He then pursued directing college bands at Southern Illinois University - Carbondale and Silver Lake College in Wisconsin.


He has performed with many wind bands, including the

Little Rock Wind Symphony, Wheaton Municipal Band,

Blue Lake Festival Band, Decatur Municipal Band, Sterling City Symphony Band, Green Bay Civic Band, Zeeland Community Band, and many high school and college ensembles as a guest artist.


Brent has had the good fortune to perform in bands with such conductors as Harry Begian, Frederick Fennell, James Keene, Gary Lewis, W. Francis McBeth, Larry Rachleff, William Revelli, and Timothy Topolevski, among others. He has studied conducting with Dr. Topolevski and Dr. Keene, as well as Harry I. Phillips.


His work for the International Horn Society includes currently serving as Regional Workshop Coordinator and Arkansas Area Rep.
